The MNR estimates that the population has grown conservatively to 500 plus elk with sub-herds including 372 elk within a core area. It has been understood that a population of 250 elk could support a limited harvest of up to 33 bulls.
The introduction of a special low-cost/low-odds lottery licence is hopfully moving into the planning stage this year.
