Northwestern Moose another sub species ranges from Thunder Bay to Western British Columbia. Wyoming Moose another sub species ranges from south eastern Alberta and southwestern Sakatchewan down into Wyoming. Alaskan Moose the fourth sub species ranges up in the NorthWest Territories, Yukon and Alaska. This sub species is the largest and can weigh over 2000 pounds. Racks have been taken that measure over 80 inches. In the middle ages Moose were domesticated and used for pack animals. Approximately 3% of all Bull Moose die each year from wounds caused by fighting other Bull Moose. In Russia Moose are sometimes used as dairy animals the milk is high in protein and fat and rich in vitamins. A farmer in Europe is making cheese from Moose milk and gets high prices from world class restaurants for the cheese and the cheese is now in high demand. The yearly harvest of Moose world wide is over 300.000 and the herd is increasing in size. The gestation period for Cow Moose is from 224-244 days. The Cows give birth to one or two calves,very rarely three. Moose are the largest deer on the planet, a Bull Moose can weigh over 1,350 pounds. Moose eat twigs leaves and water plants. On uneven ground a Moose can outrun a horse. Moose are very tasty.
