Well I wish I could say I filled my bull tag but I can't.  We did get a 2 1/2 year old bull but it was another one of our group that got it and tagged it.  We saw a moose about 50 yds off the skid road in a break in the brush and jumped out of the 4x4.  The guy that saw it said it was a cow but when we got out we couldn't see it any more, then one of my partners said he sees it and we tell him to take it.  Since we had both bull and cow tags we were safe.  After the shot he said it was a young bull that he shot at and since he had the scope on it we figured the first sighting was incorrect.  That was until I saw a small cow cross between a couple white spruce trees.  I was ready if it came out from behind the second tree but it made a 90 degree turn and slipped away into the heavy poplar and birch regeneration.  We hunted the area for a couple days until we heard another group got the cow about a half mile away.  Ce la vie!  After that we saw almost no fresh sign anywhere within 20 miles of our camp until the day before I left to come home.  The moose just weren't moving or coming to the call.  The last day my partner and I came across 4 sets of tracks that were less than an hour old.  We did a mini drive but the moose had already made it to the big bush and driving them there is useless and almost impossible without chest waders.  Sunday the boys were going out to sit and see if they could get one of them, but alas some of us do have to work and with a 12 hr drive I didn't have time for the morning hunt.  Another year of moose hunting over, that is if I can't find an excuse to make a work trip up to that WMU before the end of the season (highly unlikely but stranger things have happened).

You are what you eat.  What would you rather be, a beast or a vegetable?
