Sounds like a good selection of stands, are they positioned to hunt different wind directions? | |||

Yes they are, good question. Which gives me options according to the predicted wind for the days hunt. |

With some venison in the freezer, I now wanted to take a nice buck with my remaining tag. Oct. 18 Stand #1 8:30 am, two does and a fawn came right into the stand to sniff the mock scrape, five yards in front of the stand. Both does took turns sniffing the scape. I had broad side shots, twice. Passed on them. They ventured off, never spooked. Buck urine in scrape. |

Nov.7 Stand #1 The Seeking Phase is on here ! 55F 24k wind SE 11:00am, a mature buck walks in behind me, to my left, 30 yards out, following a doe trail, nose to the ground, no clear shot. I tryed the grunt call on him but he did not appear to hear it. He stopped at an oak tree(50yrds out) to sniff at the base of it( I tryed the grunt call again) and then he carried on and then turn in towards a thicket infront of me at 50 yrds. As I learned later, he was continuing to follow the doe trail south. He sure was brute, an 8 or 10 pointer, thick main beams. I remained in the stand until dark with no further deer sightings. --Last edited by tracer on 2009-11-09 05:27:57 -- |

Nov.8 Stand #1 55F 10k wind SE sunny 7:00 am doe-in estrus in mock scrape Walked into the stand with a scent drag line ( doe estrus) and climb into the stand with it still on. I then took it off and through it on a tree limb beside me. 10:00 am, I spot a deer coming in from the south on the same trail that the briuser left on yesterday. It's a fork horn and he's coming in and turns right headed straight for me. He walks right under me, sniffing around and then walks over to the scrape and gives it a sniff, looks around, sniffs a branch and then walks by me and heads north, likely following my scent drag trail. Another five yard broadside shot I decided to pass on. By 1:00pm it was too warm and deer movement was shut down. --Last edited by tracer on 2009-11-08 21:52:58 -- |
